“Shoes” and “Sewing”
To stitch, to spin, to bind.
In shoemaking, the act of sewing appears in many forms.
Piercing leather with a needle, joining each small piece together.
Like embroidery?stitch by stitch?tracing points that become decoration.
Then, binding the sewn leather to the sole,
the foundation that gives the shoe its strength and suppleness.
All of these begin with a single thread.
A single thread is delicate and fragile,
but when intertwined and sewn together,
connections form?and strength is born.
Perhaps this is not only true for shoemaking,
but also for the way people are bound together?
spinning and connecting one encounter to the next.
If shoes could accompany such encounters,
serving as a quiet bridge between them?
that would be our hope.
